One of the factors to take into account when deciding on which area to live in is the amenities in close proximity. If you are considering purchasing a property in Noordhoek and its surrounds you cannot help but be impressed by the wide array and quality of the Noordhoek Restaurants. Below we feature just a few of the favourites:
Local Noordhoek Restaurants
Red Herring: The downstairs Noordhoek Restaurant and garden pergola seats 40 and 64 people respectively. The restaurant is a cosy country style with a large fireplace for those cold rainy winter nights. The restaurant is complimented by its own cocktail bar and is therefore ideal for private functions. The pergola area is sheltered from the wind and is ideal for afternoon gatherings of friends and family.
The pizzas are baked in a wood burning pizza oven and are an absolute must. Two of the pièce de résistance pizzas available recently went through to the finals of the South African leg of the Global Pizza Challenge 2010 with the cook-off held at the Hostex convention in the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
Café Roux: Nestled behind Chapman’s Peak and minutes away from Noordhoek beach, Café Roux offers an unpretentious outdoor dining experience. Patrons can expect great food and fabulous South African wines at competitive prices. This isz one of the mainstay Noordhoek restaurants for breakfast and lunch so arrive early or book.
Spur: For over 40 years, Spur Steak Ranches have been part of the South African family.
It all began in 1967, when founder and executive chairman, Allen Ambor, invested R4000 to open the Golden Spur in Newlands, Cape Town. It fast developed a reputation for tasty, nutritious, value-for-money meals. (A Spur burger cost just 40 cents in those days.) Their philosophy is to offer first-class service that is relaxed and personal in an inviting and comfortably stylish environment.
The Toad: The Toad in the Village, affectionately known as The Toad, is a friends-owned country pub and Noordhoek Restaurant serving fine bistro fare with a South African twist – echoing the owners’ love of good food, local wines, family and friends and the abundance that life in this seaside valley has to offer. The Toad is at the foot of Chapman’s Peak, with the stunning Noordhoek beach on the doorstep. The restaurant is in a thatched 1850’s style farmhouse, set amongst surrounding paddocks and behind the safe white-washed stone walls of the extremely quaint and desirable Noordhoek Farm Village.
Rioja: A little haven in RIOJA, to escape the day-to-day grind. A wonderful award-winning restaurant and lounge where the buffalo, springbok and eland graze inside the Solole Private Nature Reserve. The tranquil setting lends itself to a lingering lunch, a romantic dinner or even a quick beer and pizza.
Mugg and Bean: Mugg & Bean provides the highest standard of coffee and associated hot beverages in addition to a great selection of food items, from various breakfast options for early morning shoppers to muffins and cakes for teatime. Lunches and dinners are catered for with a superb range of hot and cold foods. So taken is the public with the brand that Mugg & Bean has won the Caxton Leisure Options “Best Coffee Bar” category for 10 years in a row.
The Food Barn: The food is civilized without being pretentious … that is to say it has natural taste, smells and textures, and much character… often it looks beautiful too. What is paramount is that it is prepared with respect, savvy and love… then, it is the right food for us to eat.
Some great places to eat on your doorstep and even better, is that just 10 minutes up the road you can enjoy the restaurants of Kalk Bay which offer some wonderful dining choices:
Noordhoek Restaurants within 15 minutes (Kalk Bay)
The Brass Bell: The Restaurant consists of five different sections, Izannes, The Cabin Bistro and Pub, The Waters Edge, The Pavilion and The Bikini Deck all specializing in different sorts of Seafoods and cuisine with a variety of alternative meals also on offer. Each section offers a completely different experience for its guests, thus truly accommodating all clientele.
Harbour House: Situated in the picturesque old-world charm of Kalk Bay’s working harbour, the Harbour House has a world-class position. Built on the breakwater, the restaurant has exquisite views overlooking False Bay and the mountains beyond on one side and the colourful harbour on the other.
19 on Main: In the heart of Kalk Bay, with ample parking located conveniently close, our bistro is all about eating good food in a warm and relaxed environment.
Satori: With a mildly Tuscan art- house eclectic feel, this relaxed restaurant offers food that is modest, wholesome and inviting. The interior is bright and cheerful by day with sunny, creamy walls and mosaic patterns, and at night takes on the most delightful ambience, due in part to the combination of soft ceiling lights, strings of fairy lights and plenty of candles.
Polana: The Polana is on the ground level of the Harbour House complex and features a beautifully appointed cocktail lounge built on the rocks, only metres away from the crashing waves. Relax on luxurious leather sofas and sip a pre-dinner cocktail while soaking up sea views of unsurpassed beauty.
Klipkantien: Serving some of the best tapas around including freshly caught, seared and served Tuna straight from the sea, this small intimate eatery boasts breathtaking views in a simple setting popular with locals.
Residents are indeed spoilt for choice and even though the hustle bustle of Cape Town is an inviting 30 – 35 minutes away, many never find a need to venture further than experiencing the culinary delights on offer in Noordhoek Restaurants and its surrounds.
